The school uses a number of resources and available schemes to plan learning in English and Maths. These are used to set learning that best suits each class and individual pupils.
Maths work is based on the programmes of study within the National Curriculum. Currently the school uses White Rose Maths materials as its main scheme of work for maths supplemented by other resources in school.
In English, the school uses a number of different materials to support planning and teaching.
Every class takes part in the Big Write once a week, which is an opportunity for children to write at length for the pleasure of writing. Every child takes part in guided reading each week and the school encourages a reading culture through reading awards and prizes.
Foundation Subjects are taught through topics. Each topic has a main focus; such as Geography or History. Topics are taught as group topics. Where possible, links are made to the English and Maths that is being taught in each class. The school uses visitors and trips to further extend pupils experiences.
All state schools are required to make provision for a daily act of collective worship and they must teach religious education. At Hazelmere, we follow the Essex agreed syllabus for RE, called 'RE Matters for Every Child'. In KS2 the children are introduced to the six major world faiths (Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism) and Humanism, so, over time, they begin to recognise similarities and differences between religious and beliefs. They develop their ability to distinguish right from wrong and start to consider their own beliefs and values.
Long term plans for each year group are available on each year group’s home page. They will be updated in September each year so that our most recent planning is shown. Please click the links to open each plan.
