Year 6
Welcome to Year 6's page all about the exciting things 6P and 6R are doing.
We have had a brilliant year so far and the children should be commended on how incredibly hard they all worked in order to prepare for their SATs tests. We are looking forward to sharing a fantastic half term before we have to say goodbye at the end of July.

What have we been learning this week? (09.06.25 - 13.06.25)
In Maths, we have continued working on a 'Futures Project'. Children have been learning all about finances. We have looked at budgeting, bills and more recently, have researched the salaries and tax deductions of their dream jobs. This week, we looked more closely at the cost of utilities and how this affects 'take home pay' We also explored, mortgages, rent payments and how long it may take to save a deposit for a house.
In Literacy, we have been carefully considering the key question: 'Should historical artefacts and sites be left undisturbed, even if they hold valuable information?'. Students looked at arguments 'for' and 'against', before working in groups to give an articulate response with their opinion. We have also continued reading our class text 'The Curse of the Maya'.
'Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers' has been the inspiration again for 'Big Write' this week. Children wrote a film review and there were some excellent, persuasive pieces.
We have also been working hard rehearsing for the end of year production; 'The Wizard of Oz'. Children have been busy learning their lines and songs. The stage is now up and we are making the most of the time we have before the final show.
Next Week: 16/06/25-20/06/25
BMX Day: On Monday, children will have the opportunity to participate and enjoy some BMX workshops. This event has always been a firm favourite with both staff and students. A gentle reminder, that children need to come in wearing suitable clothing.
Danbury: The countdown to our exciting residential trip is finally over! There has been much excitement for this long awaited trip and we know that lots of children are really looking forward to going. A few reminders: On Wednesday, children need to come to school in their casual/sporty clothes and with a packed lunch. It is also important that parents have responded on Scopay with details on how their child is going home upon our return on Friday. Any questions regarding this trip, please speak to a member of staff or email the year group address: year6@ hazelmere-jun.essex.sch.uk
