Hazelmere Junior School

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3's page all about the wonderful things that we get up to in 3S and 3W.

We are looking forward to a great year with loads of brilliant things going on.

Reminders

PE is currently on a Wednesday.  We have Squash coaches coming in to teach children how to play squash.  Children need to come to school on a Wednesday wearing school PE kit.  This is a plain black or red sweatshirt and plain black tracksuit bottoms or legging.  T shirts should be plain white or red.  Children need to be wearing trainers and need to be able to remove their own earrings.  If they cannot remove their own earrings they should not be worn to school on a Wednesday.

Spelling and maths homework is set weekly on Edshed.  Children should be logging in and completing this each week.  All children have received their logins.

Children should be regularly logging in and using TT Rockstars.  This is a fun way for children to learn and practice their times tables.

Children should be reading regularly at home and returning their reading diaries to school each day.  If children read 5 times in a week they receive a raffle ticket and have the opportunity to win a book in our Friday awards assembly.

What have we been learning this week?

In Maths children have been using multiplication facts they already know to help them multiply by bigger number. If we know that 2x4=8, we can use this knowledge to help us work out that 2x40=80.

We have started a new unit in Literacy.  Over the next few weeks we will be learning all about recounts.  This week we have been identifying the features and giving oral recounts to our partners.

This week children learnt all about where bananas come from and how they make their journey from the bananas trees in the rainforests to our fruit bowls at home.

This week in science the children had the opportunity to carry out tests on a variety of rocks.  We tested how hard different rocks are by scratching them, whether they float or sink and how they react to acid.

On Friday we had a visit from 2 dentists.  The children learnt all about why our teeth are important and how to look after them properly.  Children then had a quick visual check of their teeth.

Next week.......

Next week we will be starting to write recounts in literacy and continuing to learn about multiplication in maths.  We will continue to learn about rocks in Science and the Rainforest in Geography and DT.
